There (Thursday Nov 3rd 2011)

Like I do every other Thursday I woke up early this morning and started work long before sun up so I can leave at noon to drive over here to Oregon. Everything went well and I was able to leave home by noon. The news was warning of snow in the mountains but I just missed it. It was dry but overcast the whole way over once I hit the main mountains from St Regis to Coeur d'alene.

I was going to take a picture of Dog (Rainbow) Lake on my way over in its fall colors but when I snapped the pic it said my battery was dead so I won't know if it actually took the picture until I get batteries for the camera tomorrow. One of these days I am going to have to e-mail Lester Big Crane who is the fish and wildlife program manager for the CSKT reservation and ask him why Dog lake has two names. I will write the reason here if he knows so that you guys will know it too.

Thought I saw my friend Jenny Griffin when I drove through St Regis today. I waved but with the Oregon plates on the car I was driving she probably just thought I was a crazy person :) I'll have to e-mail her tonight and see if it was her. I need to get that car's plates moved to Montana plates, I just keep getting busy and forgetting.

Hunting season is on and due to this the animals are staying away from the roads so I didn't see much in the way of animal life on my way over.

Kellog oddly enough was almost completely covered in smoke like a thick fog, hard to see through in places. I thought maybe it was a forest fire at first but when I got to the far end it turned out just to be every Cletus in the valley was burning their slash piles and the whole valley was covered in smoke. I wonder what Dilbert at the local county office decided it would be a good idea to give everyone a burn permit for the same day? Or maybe they OKd it because they thought it would snow today and hold down the smoke and when it didn't they ended up with a valley full of unbreathable air?

I stopped at Winco in Tri-Cities and picked up your favorite drinks and food for the weekend. In case it changes as you grow up I'll tell you what your favorites are currently.

For you Alec you like to have chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast but they have to be made from scratch, for lunch you like cold cuts, pickles, cheese, and saltines or oyster crackers, for dinner you like my home made pizza or else broiled hamburgers, for snacks you like salt and pepper popcorn cooked on the stove and your favorite drink is yellow Gatorade.

Nathaniel you still prefer regular Lays potato chips, and apple juice for every meal if I would let you.

You also both like the organic milk I get for you. After all my years growing up on a dairy farm there is no way I would let you guys drink non-organic milk. I saw what other dairy farmers did with their cows and there is no way I would ever want you guys drinking that.

I watched Delhi Belly(it was pretty funny) and made myself some all vegetable sushi tonight to eat while I was watching it. It was good, the movie and the sushi. I really prefer it with fish on it but veggies work in a pinch and it is easy to make so it works for an easy meal for me when I get here and I am too tired to make much of anything. I used a mixture of half Quinoa and half Japanese rice for the rice in my sushi rolls. The Quinoa adds protein and flavor and it ends up being a lot tastier than just straight rice.

Well guys I am going to put some hamburger out to thaw for dinner tomorrow, watch a funny video clip uncle Adam sent to me today and then I am going to hit the rack it is 23:20 Montana time right now.

Remember I love you both. Night. - Dad
